Chapter 17

Chapter 17 was a weird one.Mond shows John his collection of banned religious writings, and reads aloud long passages from the nineteenth-century Catholic theologian, Cardinal Newman, and from the eighteenth-century French philosopher, Maine de Biran, to the effect that religious sentiment is essentially a response to the threat of loss, old age, and death. Mond argues that in a prosperous, youthful society, there are no losses and therefore no need for religion. John asks Mond if it is natural to feel the existence of God. Mond responds that people believe what they have been conditioned to believe.

Chapter 11

Chapter 11 gives us kind of the downfall of the director. We see the sudden change in his popularity as soon as Bernard gave us the inside on what he never told the people about. The director set standards to live by to everyone he looked over but never did he follow his own ideals. John was someone he looked over and found out about at the very end. John spared interedt to the people by showing how the other side of the world lives compared to them. But when bernard was the only one you could go to so you can see him or talk to him bernard become very popular to them and was treated with respect because of John and I think this was a nice view on what happened to bernard it is way better than going to Iceland.

Chapter 10

Chapter 10 has a lot to give us and many things are revealed but it was a very informative chapter regarding how the director was never really living up to what he preached. John’s character is revealed more fully in his confrontations with World State culture. His struggle to suppress his desire to touch Lenina demonstrates the moral code that he has internalized from Shakespeare and from the “savages” on the Reservation. A World State resident would have gone for instant gratification. John finds himself in the unenviable position of living in the World State without World State conditioning. He is attracted to Lenina, but his views on sex are so radically different from hers that conflict is inevitable. At the end of it Bernard also bring John to help the people see the truth about the director.

Chapter 9

The story really just continues Lenina takes enough soma to incapacitate herself for eighteen hours. Bernard flies to Santa Fé to call Mustapha Mond. He repeats his story to a succession of secretaries before finally reaching the World Controller. Mond agrees that John and Linda are a matter of scientific interest to the World State. He instructs Bernard to visit the Warden of the Reservation to pick up the orders that will release John and Linda into his care. Meanwhile, fearful that Bernard and Lenina have left without him, John breaks into the cabin where Lenina is still on soma-holiday. He rifles through her things before he finds her passed out on the bed. This is the part where he thinks of what he really wants to do to her but then manages to control himself. But the Savage manages to control himself and that shows us that there is a was to reverse what the director and his predecessors have created. This was In my opinion one of the key moments in the story.

What I want to learn

Brave new world is a good book but a problem I have is seeing the big picture of the book. Like what the main point is in the book and thing the author tries to tell us. That is something I struggle with and would like to learn to identify things that authors do to tell us these things.

Chapter one

From cahpter one i never hear the director never called the embryos human. That got me thinking what there true definition option of a human was, was it the intelligence or maybe there life span that they considered human. The breeding process is also made for one reason designing a embryo that can do the tasks that they need don well. Much of what goes on in the world we would find cruel but is slowly becaoming reality.

Macbeth Essay Due SundayNight

Well after 2 days of nothing but work and chores I got to relax and play video games with Victor and my friends when he reminds me of the essay we have to do so now its last minute but that is no excuse to give this essay my best shot.

The play I feel has a lot of room for growth. I feel that Shakespeare could of done a little more on the background in the characters and or more in what was going on in there heads at the time. Macbeth I feel was a man who just wanted to please people, nothing he really did was ever for him but things that others wanted. Many of my feelings of the play are positive the characters were interesting and despite the people portraying the characters in class having the enthusiasm of a man in his 90's that has seen everything and nothing surprises him, the play has be wanting to just keep of reading and at times I did not wanting to wait a while day. Everyone in the play I feel had some sort of greed and from what we discussed in class on Friday and prior Shakespeare wanted to show us that pushing your luck and reaching for more than you can handle is not only a sin but just brings pandemonium to everyone involved. Macbeth was a good man he followed orders and would of had a bright future would he just have ignored the words of the witches. When Macduff killed macbeth it brought so much juice and happiness to everyone especially Malcolm, but not so much because he killed a man but what Macbeth represents. He is a man that disturbs the peace in the kingdom and brings nothing but sorrow when he get greedy, if I was in his shoes I would have been happy with my promotion but never the less I think we cant all help but think what if... what if we became king i can relate to this because i remember wanting a new rifle to go hunting with and my cousin did to so we worked hard and when I got mine he bought a better one and even tho they both end up doing the same task him having the better one made we with that was me. Now I would go and kill him for it but that's always in my head what if..

MACBETH

Reading the play we start off with a bit of fantasy with the three witches entering after the lightning strikes down this kind of gives me the feeling that something is going to happen. You get this feeling when you hear them all say fair is foul and foul is fair, this give me an inside on how the world works in the story .
The next Scene Banquo describes the battle that macbeth was in and the how he did not give up and kept fighting. One could imagine it like two boxers that are in the last couple of round both drained after giving it there all and are now running on pure adranalin and will power.

Shakespearean BadAss

From my first impression of Macbeth is he is a strong soldier that is not like the rest, he tries his hardest till the very end.
